Fort McMurray, where life is
anything but boring

FULL OF ENERGY
Skiers and snowboarders take
advantage of a pleasant winter’s
day at Vista Ridge, a ski hill just
outside Fort McMurray.
Despite its reputation as a rough and tumble
boomtown, Fort McMurray is not all that
different from other communities in Canada.
People go to work and school during the day
and enjoy the same types of leisure activities—skiing, hockey, and curling in the winter
and hiking, bicycling, and camping in the
summer—in their free time. Here’s a look at
everyday, ordinary life in Fort Mac.
